Internship Overview

Completing an internship will allow you to be paid while obtaining your Texas teacher certification. During your one-year teaching internship you will receive salary and benefits commensurate of a first year teacher in Texas.

You will be responsible to locate, interview, and obtain a full-time teaching position for your teaching internship.

Step #1: Complete Program/State Requirements

The Field Experience tab tracks your progress in completing program/state requirements necessary for certification. The program/state requirements are broken down into manageable parts you can work on.

You need to complete Module 1 in the curriculum before you interview with a principal. The terminology alone will make your interview experience more positive and productive.

The Employment Guide tab has many resources that will be helpful with your job search. Submit the I Got a Job form once you are offered a full-time teaching job for the current school year.

Step #3: Probationary Certificate

The following Internship paperwork must be received before your probationary certificate can be recommended:

1. Statement of Eligibility
2. Applied/Paid for Probationary Certificate
3. Request for Probationary Certificate Recommendation
4. Intern Information Form
5. Field Experience Handbook Policy Form

Step #4: Internship

This route to certification is a one year (two semesters) internship you can complete at an Independent School District, TEA recognized private school, charter school, or Head Start program in the state of Texas.

This certification option allows you to earn income, while working on requirements to become certified. During the internship period, you will receive a base salary and benefits of a first year teacher.

Probationary Certificate – 3 field supervisor visits required
Intern Certificate – 5 field supervisor visits required

Interns will be responsible to complete all program/state requirements listed on the Standard Certificate tab. Failure to complete assignments/requirements will delay your standard certificate.
