Clinical Teaching Overview

Clinical teaching is a great option for individuals looking for hands on experience while obtaining your certification. This certification option is a 14-week (70 instructional days) unpaid full-time assignment in the classroom of a certified teacher. WCACP locates a placement when this option is chosen.

To become certified through the Clinical Teaching route, you will need to complete the steps below:


Step #1: Submit Clinical Teaching Application

The Clinical Teaching Application can be accessed by clicking on the Apply Now button below. A Program Specialist will be in contact within 24 hours of submitting your application.

Step #2: Complete Program/State Requirements

The following requirements must be complete before the CT placement process can begin:

1. Show progress* toward your certification exam,
2. complete Module 1 - Section 1 in the curriculum,
3. minimum of 15 observation hours complete, and
4. fingerprinting in process.

*Progress means you have passed, registered or are actively studying to gain test approval for your content exam.


Step #3: Complete Clinical Teaching Paperwork

The following CT paperwork must be received before the CT placement process can begin:

1. Clinical Teaching Agreement,
2. Field Experience Handbook Policy Form
3. Clinical Teaching Resume, and
4. Process your $200 CT Placement Fee.

The CT Placement Fee will be deducted from the Remaining Program Fees listed on the Invoice tab.


Step #4: Request Placement

The WCACP CT Coordinator will work diligently to obtain a CT placement that meets your application criteria. Placements can take several weeks to set-up with so many district personnel involved.

Before the CT Coordinator can request a placement, a $200 CT Placement Fee is required.

Step #5: Confirm Clinical Teaching Placement

Once obtained, the WCACP CT Coordinator will go over the details of the scheduled CT placement.

Once placement details are confirmed, the next step will be to set-up payment arrangements for the CT assignment.


Step #6: Clinical Teaching Assignment

The 14-week clinical teaching assignment (70 instructional days) will be completed in a certified teacher’s classroom. This teacher will be called the Cooperating Teacher. He/she is following WCACP guidelines to give the clinical teacher hands on training to become a successful teacher.

The clinical teacher will be responsible to complete all program/state requirements listed on the Standard Certificate tab. Failure to complete assignments/requirements will delay your standard certificate.


Step #7: Standard Certificate

In order to become certified, the following must occur:

1. complete successful 14-week clinical teaching assignment (70 instructional days),
2. complete all program/state requirements on Standard Certificate/Field Experience tab,
3. have positive recommendations from Cooperating Teacher and WCACP Field Supervisor, and
4. program balance paid in full.
